Get back into musical shape

Getting back into musical shape…

takes a lot of work. Whether you’ve taken a few weeks off or you haven’t touched the instrument in over a decade, there are challenges that we have to over come.

First off there is the physical challenge. Playing a musical instrument is not natural and in order to get back into musical shape we have to remind our body what it feels like to play. If your lips are tingling or your arms are sore it’s simply your body telling you “I don’t like this”!

Then there is the mental side of things. If you haven’t played in while I’ll bet you don’t sound that good. In order to get back into musical shape and overcome those negative thoughts (that only waste time anyway), we need a system.

Today I lay out a very easy to follow formula…

The number of days in a row = the number of practice sessions.

If that seems vague no worries. I go into detail in this weeks episode of The Practice Room!
